Any oppo people here from northern Finland? I will be going to a winter tire press event to the Kittilä area , spending the night in the Hotel Levi Panorama, and I wondered if there’s anyone i could meet... here’s a moving picture of a non-moving 340 for your trouble.

Oooh, a 340! I haven’t seen one, moving or otherwise, in a very long time.

I’m from Finland, although not from north. I may be wrong but I don’t think we have anyone from Lapland on Oppo.

This one is near the school my kids go to. My oldest is in 4th grade, and I’ve never seen this car move an inch in all these years......

Shame. Thanks for the heads-up though!

Where are you, in Finland?

I’m in Helsinki, so pretty much the opposite end of the country.

Well, I’m half-finnish, spoke it as my first language, am still fluent, and have a Finnish name... but I live in Massachusetts.

I’m mad jealous if that counts.

I really wish the 340 had been sold here in the US. I’d rock one.

I’m Finnish too but I live in Espoo (in southern coast). I did work as a winter tire test engineer years ago and spent my one winter in Ivalo. I never made it to Kittilä but I know how to get there. Most of the automotive winter testing in Finland is done in Kittilä and Ivalo.

Levi is one of the largest downhill skiing resorts in Finland. I hope you haven’t visited the Alps (or some other real mountains) as otherwise the place might seem a rather small.

Thanks for the heads up - luckily for all involved I’m not interested in skiing at all, so your beautiful country doesn’t need to race the Alps for me.

However, how did you become a tire test engineer? What where the necessary skills for that? I’m very curious about this...

I was looking for a job but I didn’t find it but the job found me. I had just graduated from a local technical university. The testing company had asked from the university if they knew any freshly graduated people. So they suggested to contact me.

The work itself was quite fun but the problem with that kind of work was the thing that they didn’t have any work for the summer time. They have now built some indoor test facilities so you could test winter tires also during summer.
